Tale Of 5 Gamers - The Chosen!

Hello all,

Well its been a while since I did a project. Its been a long time in hobby terms (6 months?) because of distractions of work and injury during marathon training. So being injured meant I had a fair old bit of time off to contemplate my silly training mistakes.

Work wise everything had to stop. Training wise everything stopped....... I had hobby time again!

Step 1. Tidy a work space. It was a mess!!!!!

Step 2. Narrow down your list of projects you want to do to one. Actually this didnt take me long at all. Ive recently been commissioned to make moulds for a sculptor Paul Smith of Creative Sculpt Studio Ltd  and his take on some old classic Chaos miniatures had me hooked as I was cutting them into master moulds.

As a mould maker I often get to have a play with miniatures months before you mere mortals get to see them, so I contacted Paul and he let me have free reign with the master moulds to create my first unit for May. My Chaos Chosen. (Kickstarter Link)

A quick spray of Blue for my chosen deity.......

And a test scheme on my 2nd favorite sculpt.

Step 3. Will it be a mortal army, demonic or beast? Tune in soon for the answers and maybe some more painted miniatures.

Please go and check out Pauls awesome kickstarter here!

4th/5th Edition Battles 'This Is Middlehammer!!!!!!!'

Greetings all and welcome to our first post!
So here we are all set to play our 2nd game in 20 years of 5th edition fantasy battle at the end of this month. Christ what have I been up to!

A pillar of the Middlehammer community has put together a gaming day at Bristols premier gaming establishment BIG and boy does it look good. Several very active members of the Facebook groups will be in attendance and I couldn't say no to throwing my hat into the ring!

But what a conundrum I faced. What army would I take?

My dilemma is that I only like to use painted miniatures, and due to the attrition of the passage of time most of my painted armies have gone to new homes. I started to look at the options I had available to me with the dregs of painted units hidden away in the dark spider infested corners of my attic!

I cracked open several boxes and starting with my Orc and Goblin army I thought I would be on a winner with, I was disappointed to find I have only 800 points painted (bloody cheap massed infantry grrrrrrrr.).

Moving onto my Empire miniatures I had a few more options, but again I had a large number of Halflings and that brought the points back down...... 900 ish points.

So I dragged out my Dark Dwarves (Chaos Dwarf Alternatives) not expecting to have very much I could use that was painted.

Well stone the crows it doesn't take many miniatures to hit 1500 points! The picture above is about 80% of the painted miniatures I have now. So lets look at what I am planning to take and what still needs painting.

Painted

30 Blunderbuss armed Dwarves. Well once equipped with a shield these are 15 points each and thats 450 points of painted blasty goodness right there.

10 Warriors, again this is another 140 points.
2 Lords and a Mage. These can get really expensive tooled up but lets say 375 points (25%) of the total force.
4 Rocket Launcher teams rocking in at 300 points.

This forms the core of the force. But then I can take Goblins in the army too so this then allows me to bring in those cheap massed infantry I talked about before.

So I have enough painted miniatures to take to the event without having to put too much effort into preparing.

Im going to spend the next few days pouring over the army books to see if there is anything I want to take (I feel drawn to the earthshaker!) and if I can fit it into my crammed hectic timetable I shall.

If you have any advise for a noob then let me know. How would you run yours!

Oh and yes the bases on the Chaos Dwarves are wrong, but the chaps in the group are really forgiving and are allowing it to slide this time so long as I use the correct template size for the blunderbuss units I take. What a decent bunch.
